Langisjór Lake is a beautiful lake located far from civilization deep in the hear of the Icelandic highlands. The lake is one of the largest natural lakes in Iceland at 20 km (12 miles) long and up to 2 km (1.2 miles) wide. Langisjór is deep as well, with the bottom measuring at 75 m (246 ft). In fact, the name Langisjór actually means ‘The Long Sea’ in Icelandic. Langisjór is quite remote and only accessible between July through September in a 4×4 vehicle. Visitors to the area can hike, enjoy incredible views and experience the sensation of extreme isolation in a fantastically beautiful area.
